Topic and Description

  • Setting New Records in Athletics

  • Multiple new national records in athletics for both open and youth categories were set this year.  These achievements could be partially attributed to the wholistic sport science support that our current athletes are receiving. This presentation while providing insights on how the sports science team in High Performance Sport Institute helps our athletes to enhance their performance.

  • Dr Danny Lum is a senior strength and conditioning scientist in the High Performance Sport Institute of Singapore. He is most commonly known internationally for his research work on isometric training and testing. He has more than a decade of experience in providing strength and conditioning support for our national athletes. He is currently supporting athletes from athletics, badminton, cycling and kayaking.

  • Application of Resonance Frequency Breathing in Athletic Training

  • The session will cover the basics of how resonance frequency breathing works and its application in athletic settings. The lecture will close with key takeaways to help practitioners integrate RFB in training and competition.

  • Jeffrey is an ASCA Elite Level 3 coach and NSCA-CSCS with over 20 years of experience in strength and conditioning. He earned his PhD at the University of Tasmania, where his research focused on the physiological mechanisms of resonance frequency breathing.

  • Practical Support Strategies for Elite Athletes Using a Minimal, Accurate, and Adequate Approach

  • This presentation introduces practical support strategies for elite sprinters using a minimal, accurate, and adequate approach. Its goal is to maximise performance by using resources efficiently and focusing on the factors that have the greatest impact on performance. A key part of this approach is identifying performance determinants (core elements of performance) and the moderating factors that influence them. Building on these, the framework outlines essential ‘support areas’ including neuromuscular performance, readiness monitoring, athlete wellness, biomechanics, performance analysis, motivation, and feedback. These elements can provide coaches and athletes with timely insights to make better decisions and facilitate peak performance in a simple, integrated, and effective manner.

  • Jad Adrian Washif is a sport performance scientist and an ASCA Level 2 accredited S&C coach at the National Sports Institute of Malaysia. He leads the high-performance support team for athletics (track and field), cycling, and weightlifting. He has worked with elite athletes preparing for the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and other major championships, with a focus on evidence-based training, monitoring, and performance optimisation. He has also been a guest lecturer in sports-related subjects at several universities (teaching 16 semesters to date). Since 2020, he has authored 40+ peer-reviewed papers, including in high-profile journals such as Sports Medicine and BJSM.

  • Strength and Conditioning for Badminton Players in Southeast Asian Games 2025

  • This presentation will cover key aspects of performance planning and optimisation for badminton players in preparation for the SEA Games 2025. Topics include the periodisation of badminton, where structured training phases—from general preparation through to competition tapering—are used to achieve peak performance. Strength and conditioning (S&C) strategies will be highlighted for both training camps and tournament settings, focusing on the development of physical qualities such as power, agility, endurance, and recovery. Monitoring and training load management will also be discussed, with an emphasis on using both objective and subjective tools to balance workload, prevent injuries, and maintain performance throughout demanding schedules. In addition, the presentation will address the role of a comprehensive support team—including physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists, and coaches—in providing holistic care to ensure athletes remain consistently prepared for competition.

  • Thanik is a full-time fitness coach with the Badminton Association of Thailand, where he plays a key role in designing sport performance training programs and conducting physical assessments for the Thailand National Badminton Team. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the team’s notable achievements, including a bronze medal at the Badminton Individual Junior World Championships 2022, bronze at the Badminton Mixed Team Asian Championships 2023, gold in the Women’s Team and bronze in the Men’s Team at the SEA Games 2023, and bronze at the Badminton Junior Asian Championships 2023.
